Newborn United Methodist Church

Newborn UMC is located in the quiet little town of Newborn, Georgia, where Newton County borders Jasper and Morgan counties.   Coming up 142, just turn left at the Quick Stop Gas Station onto Church Street, cross the R/R tracks, and you will see the beautiful little white church.   Newborn UMC was started in 1820, making it the oldest church in Newton County.  We average 100 people at the 11 am worship service, which is large enough to have some good singing, but small enough where everyone “knows your name.”   We are a mix of young and old, and we like our music both traditional and contemporary.

In addition to the Worship Service, we have Sunday School classes for all ages, starting in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45 am.

At Newborn UMC you will also find great fellowship and learning in the Youth, Men's, and Women's groups.   We also have Choir practice Wednesday nights at 6 pm, lead by Oxford Professor and musician extraordinaire, Dr. David Leinweber.  Special Bible studies and currently a craft group making stained glass windows!

We work with Shiloh Baptist, Springfield Missionary Baptist, Mansfield UMC, Mt. Pleasant UMC and other churches in the Disciples For Christ Food Ministry, which Newborn UMC hosts.  We give food away to those in need on the Second Saturday every month at 10 am.

On the third Sunday every month we have our "Fellowship Lunch", a covered-dish, pot-luck event, where the whole church eats together, sometimes it so so crowded the kids have to take their plates outside!

We sponsor a Trunk-N-Treat every October, it is a safe, family friendly, halloween party.  This year it will be on Sunday, October 31st starting at 4:30 pm.  Last year we had over 500 people, making it the largest outdoor event in Newborn all year.

We have members who come from as far away as Buckhead, Fairplay, Conyers, and Monticello, and we have a good many from right here in Newborn.   Please know that wherever you come from, you are welcome here any time!

Thank your for your interest,

John Donaldson
