Newborn UMC was started in 1820, making it the oldest church in Newton County and is located in the town of Newborn, Georgia, where Newton County borders Jasper and Morgan counties. In the village first called Sandtown, a group of frontier Georgians built a log cabin church on this site to serve as the meeting place for the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Over the years our church has been also been known as Sandtown Methodist Episcopal Church South, Newborn Methodist Episcopal Church South, the Newborn Methodist Church, and finally the Newborn United Methodist Church!
We are thankful for our long and rich heritage of faith, and we are thankful for the way that God is blessing our church today!
